Ecocanto: listen to nature, protect the future
Ecocanto: A Habitat for a Sustainable Future
On World Habitat Day, we celebrate the importance of building a sustainable future for our planet. As we reflect on the state of our cities and the right of every human being to safe and adequate housing, it is crucial to remember that our home is much bigger: it is planet Earth.
Ecocanto was born from this awareness, offering us an innovative tool to understand and protect biodiversity, the true foundation of our global habitat.
In an increasingly urbanized world with limited resources, the ability to listen to and understand nature is more important than ever. Ecocanto invites us to go beyond the walls of our cities, to immerse ourselves in the sounds of nature and to become active custodians of biodiversity.
Biodiversity, a treasure to be measured and protected Have you ever thought about the extraordinary variety of life that surrounds us? Biodiversity, or the diversity of life on Earth, is fundamental to our planet. It is like a large puzzle, where each piece (each species) has a fundamental role. Unfortunately, human activities are putting this precious balance at risk. Why measure biodiversity? Measuring means understanding the health of ecosystems, identifying species at risk, and evaluating the effectiveness of conservation actions. Ecocanto was born from this very need. It is an ambitious project that aims to create a network of acoustic sensors to monitor biodiversity. |
What is bioacoustics and why is it so important?
Bioacoustics is the science of sounds made by animals. Each species has a unique "dialect", and by listening to these sounds we can identify the species present in an area and monitor their activities. Ecocanto uses this science to create a network of acoustic sensors that record the sounds of ecosystems.
Why is bioacoustics so important?
- Long-range detection : Acoustic sensors can pick up sounds from great distances, covering large areas that are difficult to monitor with traditional methods.
- Less invasive : animals are not disturbed by human presence during recordings, ensuring more natural, reliable and environmentally friendly data.
- Identifying elusive species : Even the most shy or nocturnal species can be detected by their vocalizations.
- Continuous Monitoring : Sensors can record sounds 24/7, providing a complete picture of animal activity.
- Advanced Analysis : Using sophisticated algorithms, large amounts of audio data can be analyzed to identify species present and monitor changes over time.

Together we can make a difference in measuring biodiversity
Do you want to contribute to the protection of biodiversity? Participate in the Ecocanto project! You can install a sensor in your garden, in your favorite park or in a protected natural area.
The data collected will be essential to create a sound map of our planet and to make informed decisions for nature conservation.
